FUNCTIONS AND TASKS
Functions
  • Studying tropical biological resources and typical ecosystems in order to supply the needs of the population in foodstuffs, food grains, consumer goods; providing scientific data for agricultural development, socio-economic development planning and environmental protection; carrying out the education and training of scientists on ecology and biological resources; working as a scientific authority of the CITES Vietnam.
Tasks
  • To study the flora and fauna of Vietnam.
  • To investigate and assess biological resources in order to provide essential data for sustainable utilization of the species of scientific, economic, and conservation concern.
  • To undertake research on the structure and function of typical ecosystems in Vietnam for the monitoring and management of natural resources and their environment.
  • To work on environmental restoration, and designing and planning of sustainable development from an environmental perspective.
  • To train scientists in the field of ecology and biological resources.
  • To provide scientific advices for management authorities in implementation of CITES activities.

ACTIVITIES
  • To do research on biodiveristy in Vietnam.
  • To investigate and assess biological resources in order to provide essential data for sustainable utilization of the species of scientific, economic, and conservation concern.
  • To undertake research on the structure and function of typical ecosystems in Vietnam for the monitoring and management of natural resources and their environment.

ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Research projects: 70-80 projects annually, many of them are national or ministerial projects.
  • Education: Training of PhD and master students on ecology and biological resources.
  • Provide technical advices for management authority in implementation of CBD and CITES, identification of plant and wildlife species.
  • Pulications: Staff of IEBR published approximately 10 books, 100 articles in SCI and SCIE journals, 50 papers in other international academic journals, and 50 papers in national academic journals. IEBR compiled a series of important books about the fauna and flora of Vietnam, the Red Data Book of Vietnam, and the Red List of Vietnam. Staff of IEBR have discovered hundreds of new species.
  • IEBR have collaborated with numerous research institutions, organizations, and NGOs in Vietnam and overseas in research on ecology and biological resources, biodiversity conservation, environmental mornitoring and pollution treatment, mitigation of climate change impacts, sustainable utilization of biological resources.
