Tasks:

  • Organization of intergrated basic investigation, research on natural condition, natural resources, environment and socio-economic development of territory.
  • Investigation, research and rational use of natural resources; experiment, analysis with the samples for researching geography, natural resources and environment.
  • Organization of survey, exploration for the exploitation and processing mineral.
  • Research and application of scientific and technological measurements to the investigation, use and exploitation of natural resources, the environment control and processing, the bio-diversity protection, the natural hazard prevention and reduction.
  • Research, development and application of remote sensing technology, GIS, GPS, Internet, etc., to analyze the space data, modeling served the evaluation, forecast.
  • Research, development and application of geophysical methods to survey geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology and environment.
  • Research for building the eco–population models, resolving the fresh water and environmental sanitation; development application, advisement, appraisement, critisism and carrying out the technology-science service in the specialistic field.
  • Organization and carrying out the domestic and foreign cooperation on geography, natural resources, environment research and the technology transfer in the related fields.

Connecting the integrated basic surveying study with the applying study to approach and resolve following problems:
  • Integrated investigation served territorial region plaining ;
  • Land potential investigation, the crop structure exchange, correcting land use plaining ;
  • Flood discharge, flood impact, flod potential, slide flood, erosion, landslide, land subsidence, earthquake ;

ACHIEVEMENTS
Typical projects.
  • Project “Integrated and oriented basic surveying on natural conditions and resources in the Plain of Reed (national program 60-02, 1983-1986 and 60-B, 1986-1990)” served to reclaim the Plain of Reed.
  • Project “Integrated and oriented basic surveying on natural resources in the low hill-mountain region and the interior field sand area of the coastal at Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces” (1992-1995).
  • Project “Flood discharge into the west sea – Thailand Gulf” (1997).
  • Project “Measures of flood discharge in the Plain of Reed” (1999).
  • National project 2004/17 “Integrated investigation on natural resources and socio-economy at the frontiers of the Southwest region served to sustainability development in the new situation” (2004-2006).
  • Project “Sediment facies and development of Mekong delta during the end period of the upper Pleistocen – Holocene” (2003-2004).
  • Project “Study of Pleistocen – Holocene sediment environment evolution in the Mekong delta.
Scientific prizes.
  • The authors of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Resources Geography (HCMIRG) were awarded the scientific prize of the VAST for the research work “Integrated and oriented basic surveying on the Plain of Reed” (in 1985).
  • The authors of HCMIRG were awarded the excellent scientific prize of the VAST for the research work “Using the water resources and flood controlling in the Plain of Reed” (1996).
  • The staffs of HCMIRG were awarded by the Government for excellent achievements on the reclaim activities in the Plain of Reed from 1987 – 1997 included: The first-class Labour Medal, the third-class Labour Medal and the government certificate of merit.
  • 10 authors of HCMIRG were awarded the first CO DO HUE prize in 2006 – A Class – by the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue for the research works “Science and integrated - oriented basic surveying resources in the low hill-mountain region and the coastal plain area Thua Thien-Hue province” (1991 – 1996).
  • The authors of HCMIRG were awarded the third prize of the technical creative competition festival for the project “Study to apply geophysical – geological technology for building 3D model of the geological structure in Thanh Đa area served to bank-erosion prevent and civil engineering”.
  • The author of HCMIRG was awarded the joint prize of VIFOTEC in 2010 for the manufacturing study the non-burned bricks productive technology from soil and clean solid waste matter (fossilized soil)”.
  • The staff of HCMIRG was awarded by the MOSTE certificate of merit and science and technology Union for the achievement on the third prize of the Vietnamese scientific and technical creative competition in 2010.
  • 07 authors of HCMIRG were awarded the second CO DO HUE prize in 2011 – B Class – by the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue for the research works “The land investigation the interior field sand area of the coastal in the Thua Thien-Hue province served to agriculture – forestry – aquaculture development”.
