The Vietnam National Museum of Nature (VNMN) was established by the Prime Minister in  Decision No 108/ND-CP dated 25/12/2012. Functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Museum defined in Decision No. 261/QD-VHL dated 26/02/2013 by the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST)

FUNCTIONS AND TASKS

Functions:

  • VNMN is a non-profit service and cultural-scientific organization with its responsibilities for researching, collecting, storing, displaying, interpreting, maintenance and display credits the Vietnam National Specimen collection of nature and documentation about nature of Vietnam for education, knowledge dissemination, scientific studies exhibition and tourism.
Tasks:
  • To organize the collection and management of Vietnam National Specimen Collection of Nature;
  • To organize display, exhibition, educate and provide interpretation about conservation of the natural environment;
  • To propose and implement scientific and technical research subjects for nature, sustainable natural resources management of Vietnam;
  • To carry out specimen classification, species identification, examination of for biology, geology, minerals and specimens from natural resources by scientific method and modern technology;   
  • To provide consultancy and technical services related to museum fields to natural museum system of Vietnam and other offices having demands in museum technology (specimen preparation, design, establish a room exhibit and collection specimens).
  • To provide education and guidance to improve the proficiency of the Vietnam natural history museum system;
  • To promote international and exchange specimens with organization, scientist in over sea under domain nature and contraction of the Vietnam National Specimen Collection of Nature  by regulation VAST  and according to the Government laws and regulations;
  • To implement activities of communication, knowledge dissemination, education to enrich awareness and understanding of community on natural and environmental protection;
  • To manage the personnel and organizational activities as assigned by the president of VAST;
  • To manage and utilize infrastructure, facilities, financial resources and other properties of VNMN as regulated by the State and VAST; 
  • Other works assigned by President of VAST.

ACTIVITIES
  • To implement the professional activities following the assigned function, task.
  • To collect specimens, building the National Specimen Collection.
  • To prepare for construction Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
SEVERAL MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Completed the construction “Organism Evolution Exhibition Room”
  • Land for construstion of the Vietnam National Musem of Nature has been provided at the Quoc Oai district, Hanoi with the areas of 30 ha.
  • Specimenns collection: Over two thousands specimens has been collected.
  • Scientific paper: 46 articles have been published in scientific journals, including 14 articles in international magazine.
  • Training: 03 staff members taking the PhD course abroad.
  • International cooperation: Signed 05 Memorandum of Understanding  to cooperate with foreign partners, 17 international delegations came and worked at the Museum and organized 17 delegations go abroad for scientific exchanges.
