Prospect for cooperation on space science and technology between Vietnam and France

.

On July 2nd 2013, the delegation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) led by VAST president, Prof. Chau Van Minh, visited and worked with French Trade Minister Nicole Bricq.

During the working session, the two sides reviewed cooperation results over the past years in space science and technology, especially in the implementation of the VNREDSat-1 small satellite project with an investment of 55.8 million Euro in preferential ODA of the French government and 64,830 million VND from Vietnam’s corresponding capital. The two sides affirmed that the successful launch of the Vietnam’s first earth-observation satellite VNDREDSat-1 into space on May 7th 2013 was an important mark in space science and technology cooperation between Vietnam and France. It was initial foundation for Vietnam’s science and technology in receiving and mastering earth-observation small satellite technology.
At the working session, Astrium provider said that the company would transfer all the VNREDSat-1 project to VAST in August as scheduled. Representatives from Astrium affirmed that the staff of cadres and engineers of the project would be trained in France. Vietnam could master the operation and exploitation of VNREDSat-1 satellite. Minister Nicole Bricq hoped that after the success of VNDREDSat-1, VAST will have more cooperation projects in space technology.
