In implementing Decision 1515/QĐ-KHCNVN on organizing an international training course signed by president of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources and the Department of International Cooperation under VAST coordinated with the Institute of Ecology and Environment under the National Centre for Scientific Research of France (CNRS) to organize a France-Vietnam training course on biodiversity in the tropics, from molecule to ecosystem, from December 5th to December 15th 2012 in Do Son, the northern port city of Hai Phong.
This annual activity between VAST and CNRS drew the participation of about 50 young researchers in the fields of ecology and biological resources from institutes and universities nationwide. Both French and Vietnamese teachers presented lectures during the training course.
The training course aimed to introduce deep knowledge about ecology and biological resources, and new approaches so that participants can conduct further study to become experts in this field.
Participants studied ecological processes from molecule to individual, and population and ecosystem; elements of physical environment, climate, land and specific features of the tropics; strong interaction between competitive opponents, hunters and prey, parasites and hosts; and different approach methods, from experimental study on the biochemical mediation of interaction among different species, to studies on symbiosis structure models of species.
They also discovered interaction between marine and continental environments; dangers to tropical biodiversity due to global environmental changes; impacts of ecosystem regression on people’s health and modern methods to approach ecological techniques in order to restore biodiversity and ecosystem activities.
Participants concluding the training courses were given certificates of attendance and souvenirs.
