On October 26, 2018, VAST solemnly held a ceremony to present the Medal of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) to Prof. Dr. Marie-Georges Olivier, Head of Materials Department, Mons University, the Kingdom of Belgium, for having contributions to building and developing VAST.
Attending the ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. and senior researcher Ninh Khac Ban who is a senior researcher, Head of International Cooperation Department under VAST; Ms. Anne Lange, Head of Wallonie Bruxelles International (WBI) in Hanoi; Prof. Dr. Thai Hoang, Head of Institute of Tropical Technology and the Institute’s Deputy Heads - Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam and Dr. Le Trong Lu; together with other leaders and staff of the institute.
Prof. Dr. Marie-Georges Olivier, Mons University, the Kingdom of Belgium, received a doctor certificate in 1996. She is currently the Head of the Material Department at Mons University, a member of the INISMa Council (Ceramic Research Center), a member of the EFC Council (European Federation of Corrosion) and the co-chair of the coating field of the annual Corrosion Conference.
Her main field of research is electrochemical, corrosion and metal protection, nano-materials, multi-functional materials and intelligent coatings. So far, Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier is guiding 6 PhDs and has successfully guided 13 PhDs, including 2 Doctors from the Institute of Tropical Technology (Dr. Nguyen Thuy Duong and Dr. Thai Thu Thuy). She has more than 115 international articles on the ISI list. In addition, she also participated in organizing a number of international conferences such as the international workshop “Application of Electrochemical Techniques to Organic Coatings” (AETOC), the 11th international conference on the first micro and nano size electrochemical systems (ENMT2016), and the upcoming European Conference of Corrosion in 2020 (EUROCORR2020).
Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier chaired 4 cooperation projects between Vietnam and Belgium, such as AUF project (2008-2009), WBI project (2014-2016), CUD project (2014-2018), and the Belgian Protocol (2013-2015). In the CUD project, Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier developed the Center for "Metal and electrochemical protection" at the Institute of Tropical Technology, helping to build a system of electrochemical devices and nanomaterial synthesizers. Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier also conducted many classes on corrosion and electrochemical techniques in Vietnam. In the last 5 years, Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier has supported more than 10 researchers of the Institute of Tropical Technology to work and improve professional skills at Mons University, Belgium.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. and senior researcher Ninh Khac Ban, on behalf VAST leaders, awarded the VAST Medal to Prof. Marie-Georges Olivier to acknowledge her contributions to building and developing scientific and technological research at VAST.
