International workshop on newly appeared Animal to Human parasitic diseases: epidemics, diagnosis and prevention in Asia countries

In recent years, more parasitic diseases are being transmitted through food from animals to humans given the favourable conditions for their development and ease of spreading. Parasitic diseases not only cause damage to people’s health, possibly fatal, but consequent economic damage. It is important to conduct epidemiological studies to diagnose and propose suitable methods of prevention, treatment and care, in order to protect the community at large.


VAST president visits Lao People’s Democratic Republic

The delegation of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Prof. Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and VAST president, paid a working visit to science agencies in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (LPDR) from May 20th to 26th, 2012.


IOC/WESTPAC-HAB symposium and the 2nd IOC/WESTPAC-TMO–HAB training course at Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang

The Institute of Oceanography held the IOC/WESTPAC-HAB symposium on research on the blossom of toxic seaweed in the future and the second IOC/WESTPAC-TMO–HAB training course on applying immunologic methods to discover domoic acid in plankton and shellfish from March 15th to 22nd in the central city of Nha Trang. The events were sponsored by IOC/WESTPAC and Japan’s Tokyo University.


Delegation from the Science Council of Asia and Science Council of Japan visit Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

In the framework of a visit to Vietnam, on March 12th, a delegation from the Science Council of Asia (SCA) and Science Council of Japan (SCJ) led by Prof. Yoshiko Shirata, general secretary and executive director of the SCA, paid a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST president; Assoc. Prof. Ninh Khac Ban, head of Department for International Cooperation and representatives from the Institute of Environmental Technology, the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, the Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Geography all took part in a reception for the delegation.
At the reception, the two sides briefly introduced their missions, tasks, potentials in science and technology, and achievements, as well as international cooperation activities and key research orientations in the near future.
Prof. Minh said that VAST would like to become a regular partner of SCJ and SCA.
Concluding the working session, Prof. Minh appreciated the working visit of the delegation and hoped that the visit would open prospects for official cooperation between VAST and SCA and SCJ.
