Selecting scientific tasks under the Central Highlands Programme during 2012

The Central Highlands has a remarkably important position in the economy, society and national security. So, it is necessary to conduct science and technology research to promote socio-economic development, contributing to national security for the Central Highlands.

 

 

The Central Highlands Programme 3 is a science and technology task, which continues from the Central Highlands Programme 1 and 2 assigned by the Prime Minister, to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), in coordination with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and science agencies nationwide.

The Steering Committee of the Central Highlands Programme include seven members led by Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST president. The Central Highlands Programme 3 started in 2011 with 19 natural science and technology tasks. Many delegations of scientists have conducted surveys in the Central Highlands.

To continue objectives of the Central Highlands Programme 3, on April 23rd, VAST president issued Decision No 476/QĐ-KHCNVN on approving individuals and organizations to carry out state level projects in the plan for 2012 under the Central Highlands Programme 3. Nine projects of them were in natural sciences, science and technology. Twelve were in socio-economic science, security and national defence.



In late April and early May, 2012, VAST held councils to appraise content and expenses for scientific projects under the Central Highlands Programme 3 which started at the beginning of 2012. Accordingly, state-level scientific projects of organizations and individuals in the 2012 plan under the programme, code KHCN-TN3/11-15, are appraised in both professional content and expense.

Appraising group in social sciences

During a meeting to appraise content and expense of scientific projects under the Central Highlands Programme 3, there were nine appraising groups in natural science and twelve groups in social science appraising 21 projects. The appraising groups in natural science was led by Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST president, head of Programme 3. The appraising groups in social science were led by Prof. Nguyen Xuan Thang, president of Vietnam Academy of Social Science and deputy head of Programme 3. There were also representatives from a profile selection council, leaders from the Department of Natural and Social Science, Department of Science and Finance under the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Department of Planning and Finance under VAST.

During the four working days, the groups appraised 21 science and technology tasks to meet objectives and tasks of the Central Highland Programme in religion, politics, education, society, security and national defence, natural resources and finally science and technology for sustainable development in the Central Highlands.


According to Prof. Nguyen Dinh Ky, head of the Institute of Geography, deputy head of the Central Highlands Programme 3, 21 tasks in 2012 include four objectives and eight contents of the Central Higlands Programme 3. Initial results are thanks to active participation of the scientists in selection and appraising councils under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
