From 21 January 2017 to 24 February 2017, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the VAST Party Committee and VAST President, led a delegation to pay a working visit to the Central Highlands. Participants in the delegation were Head of the national scientific and technological program on space technology in the 2016-2020 period, Deputy Head of the Central Highlands program in the 2016-2020 period, leaders from the Department of Social and Natural Sciences under the Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives from the VAST Office, the Department for Application and Implementation of Technology, the Organization – Personnel Department together with representatives from 17 Institutes under VAST.
The aim of the working visit was to study the demand for scientific and technological application in Central Highlands provinces, thus building up scientific and technological cooperation between VAST and localities in order to accelerate scientific and technological application to serve socio-economic development in the Central Highlands region. The results gained during the working visit include:
On 21 February 2017, the delegation worked with the Central Highlands Steering Committee represented by Nguyen Duc Phong, a member and Head of the Department of Economics, together with Heads and Deputy Heads of other departments.
The two sides discussed the following contents:
• VAST continues to transfer research results from subjects belonging to Central Highlands 3 program to the Central Highlands Steering Committee in order to apply the research results in reality.
• VAST develops a project on establishing a scientific and technological application centre in Buon Me Thuot city to accelerate the application of research results and technologies of VAST into socio-economic development in the Central Highlands.
• VAST and the Central Highlands Steering Committee agree on some important contents that need to be carried out in the Central Highlands 3 program in the 2016-2020 period, for prompt adoption.
• VAST sends cadres to the Central Highlands Steering Committee to train the committee’s officers in exploiting, using and managing the database assigned by the Central Highlands program.
During the working visit, VAST delegation inspected the progress and quality of the project on building a satellite yard on an area of 5 hectares of land in Buon Me Thuot city. The Institute of Space Technology had reports on the target, construction progress and results of the project as of February, 2017. The Institute of Space Technology also proposed the building of a technological application centre on the site.
VAST President Chau Van Minh assigned the Central Highlands Scientific Research Institute to build up a project establishing a scientific and technological application centre of VAST in Buon Ma Thuot city. The Central Highlands Scientific Research Institute will work with relevant agencies to prepare a document on collecting feedback from relevant agencies, forwarding the adoption of the project by 30 June 2017.
On 22 February 2017 in Dak Nong province, VAST and the Dak Nong provincial People’s Committee signed to cooperate in science and technology in the 2017-2021 period with an aim to promote and increase the application of VAST scientific and technological research results and Dak Nong province’s scientific and technological programs, in order to boost socio-economic development in the province and create favourable conditions for VAST scientists to join scientific and technological research for Dak Nong province.
Attendants at the signing ceremony were Le Dien, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Dak Nong Party Committee; Nguyen Bon, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and leaders from the provincial People's Committee and departments.
Based on the agreement, VAST units have a basis to transfer the research results and technology to agencies and enterprises in Dak Nong province. The two sides will work together to study and make geological heritage and geological park dossiers in Dak Nong province, for submitting to UNESCO to recognize the global geological park.
The two sides jointly proposed the Ministry of Science and Technology to approve the tasks under the "Program on supporting the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances for socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and ethnic minority areas in the 2016-2025 period”, making contribution to boost socio-economic development in Dak Nong province.
During the working visit of VAST delegation in the Central Highlands, the Central Highlands 3 Program handed over 250 Central Highlands Atlas books to the Central Highlands Steering Committee, together with Central Highlands provinces as a basis for local management and direction.
Dr. and senior researcher Nguyen Dinh Ky works with leaders from the Kon Tum provincial Department of Science and Technology, hands over the Central Highlands Atlas and presents the Vietnam National Atlas to the department.
The Vietnam Museum of Nature held a workshop on scientific investigation and research of the Krong No volcanic cave in Dak Nong province, for the development of profiles asking for recognition of the heritage for the global geological Krong No Volcano Park. Participants at the workshop also participated in a field survey trip at Krong No Volcanic Cave, which will request UNESCO to recognize the global geological park.
