"Vietnam's glory - A mark of 30 years of renewal" award presented to Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu, Former President of Vietnam Academy of Science

Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu, former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science (now the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), a leading scientist, has made contribution to Vietnam’s science in general and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular. He has carried out diverse national and international scientific research projects.

A central selection council (with the participation of leaders from Office of the Party Central Committee, the Office of the State President, the Party Central Committee Commission on Popularization and Education, the Party Central Committee Commission on Economics, the Party Central Committee Commission on Mass Mobilization, the Party Central Committee Commission on Inspection, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and the Ministry of Science and Technology) was established by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour. After the five rounds of evaluation and casting of secret ballot, the council selected 12 collectives and 18 individuals who had made excellent achievements during the 30-year renewal process initiated and led by the Party, contributing significantly to the building of socialism and national defence. They were selected to be honoured during the program “Vietnam glory - A mark of 30 years of renewal" which was broadcast live on the evening of May 20, 2017 at the Vietnam Soviet Friendship Palace. A representative of the award from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology honoured during the program was Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu, former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science. However, due to health reasons, Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu could not attend the award ceremony.

On August 10, 2017, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour authorized the Vietnam Public Sector Union and the trade union of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to present the "The glory of Vietnam - the mark of 30 years of renewal" symbol to Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu. Mr. Dao Van Ngoc, Vice President of the Vietnam Public Sector Union; Prof. Nguyen Quang Liem, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Prof. Truong Nam Hai, President of the Trade Union of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and members of the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, were present to award the symbol to Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu.

Mr. Dao Van Ngoc congratulated Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu on receiving the noble prize of the State and wished the professor good health and continued contributions to Vietnam’s science and technology.

Speaking in the formal and warm atmosphere of the award ceremony, Academic and Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu expressed his appreciation to the Party and State, especially late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, his early mentor leading him in the first steps to science. The professor confirmed that as long as his heart beats, he will do his utmost to serve the country and the people.
