On January 8th, 2019, an open contract signing ceremony 2019 for components of the project on building the national specimen collection of Vietnamese nature took place at the Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
The contract was signed by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the Project Management Board and representatives of leading units and individuals in charge of component projects. VAST’s representatives included Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Dinh Cong, VAST Vice President and Project Manager; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Minh, General Director of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature and permanent manager of the project; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Phong, deputy head of the Department of Planning and Finance and vice manager of the project; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Truong Giang, deputy head of the Department of Planning and Finance; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Ke Long, Vice General Director of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature; and representatives from the Institute of Geography, Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Geography and Environment, the Vietnam National Museum of Nature and head of new open component projects.
Newly opened component projects in 2019 include three projects. One project focuses on researching scientific issues on land classification and assessment, chaired by Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan and the lead agency, the Vietnam National Museum of Nature; The other two projects focus on building up a sample of soil in the Northeastern Vietnam, chaired by Dr. Nguyen Manh Ha, and lead agency by the Institute of Geography; and on building up a set of soil samples in South Central Vietnam and Southern Vietnam, chaired by Dr. Ho Dinh Xuan and the lead agency, Ho Chi Minh City Insitute of Resources Geography.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr.Sc. Nguyen Dinh Cong said that the project on building national specimen collection of Vietnamese nature was a large project with 35 component projects which have special characteristics. It was implemented by VAST for several years in accordance with the Government decision on planning Vietnam’s nature museum system. VAST and the Department of Planning and Finance would continue creating favourable conditions for the best implementation. Mr. Cong also asked that the chairmen of component projects and lead agencies conduct reasonable finance works, timely adjust when having problems and report to the management board and VAST.
Also at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Minh gave brief information about the project and notes on component project issues during implementation, especially those involving culture and the preservation of specimens during the collection and handover to the Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
After the signing ceremony, the component projects will be implemented as scheduled.
