In Hanoi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and the representative of Hokkaido University, Japan, have signed a memorandum of cooperation agreement on control, operation and sharing of MicroDragon satellite data.
The signing ceremony of memorandum of cooperation agreement on control, operation and sharing of MicroDragon satellite data between VNSC and Hokkaido University, Japan.
MicroDragon satellite, which weighs 50 kilograms, is a product in the basic satellite training component of the project "Prevention of natural disasters and climate change using Earth observation satellite".
The component project aims to build qualified human resources in the field of satellite technology and space through sending 36 young researchers and engineers to the top five universities in Japan to study the Master's program in space technology and MicroDragon satellite manufacturing. The main task of MicroDragon is to take photos to monitor the quality of coastal water to serve the fishery and aquaculture industry in Vietnam.
The first photo taken from MicroDragon satellite by TPI camera at 0: 15 (Vietnam time) on Jan.22, 2019 (TPI camera system is responsible for observing and detecting cloud cover, air properties and the improvement of atmospheric correction).
Launched into orbit by Epsilon-4 missile on Jan.18, 2019 at Uchinoura launching site, MicroDragon successfully connected to the ground station continuously from Jan.18 to 23, 2019. The staff from VNSC successfully received signals from the satellite, transferred the mode control and stabilized the satellite posture, capture control, photo reception and process. Initially obtained results show that the satellite is in good condition and functions as designed.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated young engineers who manufactured MicroDragon satellite of VNSC on Jan. 21, 2019.
After a trial operation in Japan, during the preparation of a ground station in Vietnam, MicroDragon satellite is in standby state for operation in orbit. In this context, the signing of a cooperation agreement will be premise for continuing the exploitation of MicroDragon satellite in Japan with practical benefits.
