On June 10th, the Vietnam National Space Center, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), coordinated with the U.S Embassy in Vietnam to organize a seminar entitled “Generation Space Exploration and Commercialization of Space” in Hanoi.
The event was held on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by Charles Frank Bolden Jr., U.S. Department of State’s Science Envoy for Space, former NASA Administrator and Astronaut, who has flown into space four times.
The overview of the seminar
At the seminar, Mr. Charles Frank Bolden Jr. gave a presentation on "Human Adventure Journey" which began with general information about the journey to explore the universe, search for life-existent planets, and studies of life on earth that NASA implemented, as well as the participation of private companies in this process.
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. made a presentation at the event
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. spent special time introducing women who have been working at NASA, OSIRIS-Rex space probe launched on Sept. 8, 2016, with the task of researching asteroids called Bennu and bringing specimens to earth to study. OSIRIS-Rex paves the way for future spacecraft designed to scout any newly discovered objects (asteroids, comets ...). In addition to protecting against potential threats from space, the specimens will help scientists have an opportunity to further study the solar system formation and water source on the earth.
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam National Space Center, at the event
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. gave information about the ISS International Space Station (life and studies on the space station); spacecraft transporting people and goods to the international space station, as well as expanding human presence in the solar system; James Webb space telescope; and future space flights on the process of monitoring earth temperatures using space technology.
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. had a working session with leaders of Vietnam National Space Center
Earlier on Jun.10, 2019, Charles Frank Bolden Jr. had a working session with leaders of Vietnam National Space Center. At the working session, the two sides discussed strategies and experiences in managing and developing space programs, building museums, educating the community as well as exchanging experiences for Vietnamese scientists, contributing to strengthening the cooperation on space science and technology between Vietnam and the U.S in general, and between NASA and Vietnam National Space Center in particular.
Charles Frank Bolden Jr. had an exchange with teachers and students from schools in Hanoi at Hoa Lac Observatory
Also in the framework of the working visit, Charles Frank Bolden Jr. had an exchange entitled ”Mars Discovery” with teachers and students from schools in Hanoi on Jun.11, 2019, at Hoa Lac Observatory (Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park).
