During the implementation of the Government’s working plan on socio-economic development with an emphasis on science and technology to promote a knowledge-based economy in the new period, on July 12, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and a delegation from the Office of the Government, as well as representatives from ministries and sectors, visited and worked with VAST, a leading scientific and technological agency of the country.
On May 19, a delegation from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) led by Vice President, Prof. Yuseku Kawakami paid a working visit to VAST. Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST President, and representatives from the international cooperation board and research institutes under VAST welcomed the delegation.
On June 10th, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a satellite signal receiving and transmitting station, a section of Vietnam's satellite control station. This is an important component in the VNREDSAT-1 small satellite project, designed to monitor disasters and environmental and natural resources, in coordination with Republic of France, approved by the Prime Minister according to the Document No 21/TTg-QHQT on January 6th 2009.
The digital library of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) has been expanded to include many foreign publications, both improving the quantity and quality of the information avalible to staff. Despite its limited information the digital library of the VAST has been serving the technological science staff in the academy for the past two years. In order to better serve the professional work of these staff, the Institute for Scientific Information has made extra efforts in supplementing the digital library with basic databases and online magazines of prestigious publishers such as the ScienceDirect database by Elsevier Publisher. Other online magazines like APS and AIP of the American Physical Society, IOP of the British Institute of Physics, and ACS of the American Chemical Society have also been added to the VAST database.
On May 20th, the Institute of Geography held a seminar on 15 years of postgraduate training, cooperation and development, to review 40 years of the institute development and share experiences in improve the quality of postgraduate training. The Institute of Geography is a leading institute and is also a postgraduate training centre in the field of geography and earth sciences in Vietnam.
On May 10th, Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and representatives from the Department for International Cooperation and Vietnam Space Technology Institute received a delegation from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
