Dated September 19th, 2010, at Con Vanh, Nam Phu commune, Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province, the Institute of Geography, under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, investor in the project “Observation station for researching geography and environment of Northern Delta” incorporated with construction consultant - Vietnam Power and Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company - PIDI to successfully a hold ground breaking ceremony.
The project on doctorate training cooperation between the Institute of Biotechnology (the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology), College of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), and Greifswald University (Federal Republic of Germany) (JGEP in short) from 2002 to 2010 sent 80 postgraduates to the Federal Republic of Germany. Over 70% of them graduated with excellent and good certificates. A multitude of scientific research was printed in prestigious international scientific magazines.
On August 16th 2010, a signing ceremony between the project management board “Vietnam Universe Center” and JICA Consultant Group on investigative research to prepare for a project to cope with climate changes and disasters utilizing the monitoring system by satellite took place at the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology. The event was witnessed by leaders from the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
On August 25th, 2010, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat, Truong Tan Sang, paid a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology.
On August 18th, 2010, the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology held a conference to present the framework of the programme of universe technology and science and the draft outline for the research about the Central Highlands in the 2011-2015 period to the working delegation from the Ministry of Sciences and Technology led by its Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien. The draft outline for the research about the Central Highlands is entitled “Research to review and synthesize environmental resources, socio-economics and propose foundation of sciences and technology for the strategy of sustainable development in the Central Highlands in the 2011-2020 and vision to 2030” (the Central Highlands III programme for short).
On August 19th, 2010, at the Opening ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderbad, India, the international maths association solemnly presented the Fields Medal, the noblest prize of maths, which was similar to the Nobel prize in other different sciences, to four mathematicians for having outstanding achievements. They were Ngo Bao Chau, Vietnam; Lindenstrauss, Israel; S.Smirnov, Russia; and C.Villani, France.
