New species of Aristolochiaceae discovered
In study of the diversity of Aristolochia species in Vietnam, scientists from the Vietnam Museum of Nature in collaboration with the Institute of Genome Research and the Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, Lam Dong Province, discovered a new species of plant in Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, Lam Dong Province. The species’ name is Neinhuis (Aristolochia neinhuisii Do), the Aristolochiaceae family. It is named after Prof. Christopher Neinhuis, in order to honour his great contribution to the research and conservation of aristolochia in the world.
This is the second species of aristolochia discovered in Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park in recent years.
Morphological characteristics of Aristolochia neinhuis
The new species has similar morphological characteristics to Aristolochia hainanensis, A. tonkinensis and A. howii. This new species is distinguished from other species by its characteristic features: opposite-side leaves, some 2-lobed leaves, chestnut-coloured coverage of flowers and yellow gymnostemium.
The results are published in the journal Annales Botanici Fennici No. 54, 2017. For more information, please visit: http://www.sekj.org/PDF/anb54-free/anb54-203- 208-free.pdf
