Goal and objectives of the project

- To characterize the biodiversity of meiofauna communities and focusing on the free-living marine Nematodes at the sea – grass bed in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces.
- To improve knowledge for young sceincetis concern biology experiment (reproductive biology of free-living marine nematodes).

Main results

The average of nematode densities were highest in Xom Giao (1077 ind./10 cm2) and in Con Mat (225 ind./10 cm2) whereas the lowest densities were found in station Ha Dong (167 ind./10 cm2)

The nematode community was highly diverse, including 147 species, belonging to 22 families of 7 orders (Monhysterida, Chromadorida, Desmodorida, Desmoscolecida, Plectida, Enoplida and Aerolaimida).

One new species have been recorded (Parasphaerolaimus pilosus sp. nov.) and the spermatozoa from testis of the free-living marine nematode Desmoscolex granulates (Desmoscolecida) were studied electron-microscopically from sea-grass bed in Quang Ninh province.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- The fauna of nematodes from sea – grass bed in Quang Ninh province and their community structure had been investigated. Three stations had been chosen as Ha Dong (HD), Con Mat (CM) and Xom Giao (XG) for the sampling scheme.
- Described three new species for science in sea-grass bed in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.
- In addition, our young scientists have a great opportunity to enhance their background through the international cooperation and the scientific exchange between the Institute of IEBR and the Institute of Marine Biology Far Eastern Branch of the Russian
Academy of Sciences.
