Goal and objectives of the project

- Comprehensive and systematic investigate ofcontent and composition of lipid, fatty acid and their derivatives from some marine species (coral, seaweed, echinoderm, mollusk, sponge) in theNorth Central to Central Coast of Vietnam.
- Create functional food products from marine organisms.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
a. Products type II:
+ Created a database of 184 marine organisms (51 samples of coral, 25 samples of seaweed, 32 samples of sponges, 36 samples of mollusks, 40 samples of echinoderms) were were collected in the North Central to Central Coast of Vietnam including: specimens (stored at the Institute of MarineEnvironment and Resources, Hai Phong); images; classification results; site sampling information with environmental parameters; data of lipid: total lipid content, content and composition of lipid classes and fatty acids, content and composition of fatty acids in lipid classes in some marine organisms.
+ Established 05 processes for isolating lipid classes from 05 marine targets coral, sponge, mollusk, seaweed and echinoderm collected in Central Coast of Vietnam.
+ Established processes for synthesizing 17 compounds from cholesterol, of which 9 compounds are new; 2 compounds6-hydroxy-4α,5α-epoxycholestane-3-one (C12) and 4α,5α-epoxycholestane-3,6-dione (C13) exhibit highest biological activities.
+ Successfully researched the process of creating 01 functional food product from sea urchins.
+ Evaluated biological activities of 184 lipid extracts from collected marine organisms, 42 samples including isolated classes and synthesized/semi-synthesized compounds.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Created database for 184 marine organisms (51 samples of coral, 25 samples of seaweed, 32 samples of sponges, 36 samples of mollusks, 40 samples of echinoderms) including information of scientidic name and lipid of collected samples.
- Established 05 processes for isolating lipid classes from 05 marine targets coral, sponge, mollusk, seaweed and echinoderm collected in Central Coast of Vietnam.
