Goal and objectives of the project
  • Calculation of design floods for planning and determination of flood drainage corridors in downstream areas of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river when hydropower plants operate and under climate change conditions.
  • Determine the flood drainage corridor, build the flood drainage map at the scale of 1: 10.000 on the main river corridors corresponding to the design flood.
  • To propose plans on exploitation and use of mudflats and riverine areas suitable to the flood drainage capability in order to stabilize the population's living and sustainable development.
Main results

Theoretical results:

  • Identification of flood and inundation area in downstream of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river in Danang city with high reliability based on the combinned application of mathematical models: Mike-Nam (rainfall - runoff), HEC-Ressim (Reservoir system simulation), Mike 11 and Mike Flood connected to the Geographic Information System.
  • From the point of view of constructing the flood drainage corridor to control and manage floods, minimize damage to infrastructure as well as people's lives, The project provided solution included: (i) widening the riverbed of the contraction section and leaving the water protection corridor of 100m along two banks (green park form); (ii) create 5.9km drainage canal for land located between Yen - Cam Le - Qua Giang - Vinh Dien rivers; (iii) create 1,400 ha of agricultural land in Hoa Phong, Hoa Tien, Hoa Chau and Hoa Phuoc communes for flood relief for up to 32 hours to achieve flood management objectives. 5% according to the development plan of Da Nang city and Vu Gia - Thu Bon basin to 2030

Applied results:

  • Building a basis for planning policies for management of land and water resources, natural calamities, making planning, plans for socio-economic development rational, planning residential in Vu Gia - Thu Bon basin downstream region of DaNang city.
