Goal and objectives of the project

- Determining groundwater resources on reserves and quality by space and time in the coastal zone of Quang Tri province.
- Determining the plan for exploiting groundwater in reasonable area (reserves and quality) by space and time.

Main results

- Theoretical results:

  1. Based on synthesizing and adjusting documents combined with additional field work, Hydrogeology map scale 1:50.000 has been established, on which to express the distribution of the aquifers on the coastal plain of Quang Tri province.
  2. Potential exploitation reserves of the most aquifers have been assessed as follows: 1. The Holocene porous aquifer of the loosed sediment, multi-origin; 2. Porous aquifer of river sediment Pleistocene; 3. Porous- crack aquifer of basal eruption formations, Neogen - Quaternary; 4. Neogen porous- crack aquifer, and to determine the total potential reserves of the groundwater aquifers the coastal zone of Quang Tri province to be 1.070.170 m3/day, it means 390.612.050 m3/year.
  3. Through additional groundwater sample analysis and reference of 300 groundwater samples from previous projects studied in the study area for two Holocene and Pleistocene aquifers being exploited. The result shows that in generally the quality of groundwater in the coastal zone of Quang Tri province is rather good compared to standard QCVN 09- MT:2015/BTNMT by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and QCVN 01: 2009/BYT, except for some intruded saline areas. There are no signs of groundwater contamination caused by production and domestic activities .
  4. Applying the numerical modeling method to make the plans for groundwater exploitation such as (PAI) & (PAII) and determining diagrams of groundwater exploitation (PAII) is sustainable plan for the study area.
  5. Based on a combination of studies on water resources and socio-economic development of the province, report give appropriate plans for groundwater exploitation in the coastal zone of Quang Tri province serving the economic development.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- First time, Applying the numerical modeling method to make the plans for groundwater exploitation such as (PAI) & (PAII) and determining diagrams of groundwater exploitation (PAII) is sustainable plan for the study area.
- Based on a combination of studies on water resources and socio-economic development of the province, report give appropriate plans for groundwater exploitation in the coastal zone of Quang Tri province serving the economic development.
