Goal and objectives of the project

- The separation process of mannuronate (M) and guluronate (G) oligosaccharides from Nhatrang alginate.
- The synthesis process of nanocomposites of hydroxyapatite and Nhatrang sodium alginate (from Nhatrang brown seaweed) or its oligosaccharides (200 g of product/batch).

Main results

Theoretical results:
The synthesis process of nanocomposites of hydroxyapatite and Nhatrang sodium alginate (from Nhatrang brown seaweed) or its oligosaccharides (200 g of product/batch).

Applied results:
- Using and increasing of the value of VAST’s two products (namely HA and sodium alginate).
- Having the opportunity to make an effective calcium supplemental food/drug with reasonable cost when the pharmaceutical companies use HA/alginate nanocomposite, the product of the project, in their manufacture.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The synthesis process of nanocomposite HA/alginate, the result of the project, is fully capable of scale up to commercial production.
The in vitro effect on the function of pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells was evaluated and indicated the high ability of the nanocomposites HA/alginate to stimulate osteoblast differentiation and mineralization.
